Archaeologists' festival in Turaida Museum Reserve

THE PROGRAM

 

11.00AM on the hill of Vikmeste.

Acquaintance with the results of this summer's archaeological research of the mound. Together with the archeologists of the museum reserve, the young people of Sigulda region also participate in the archaeological research of the Vikmeste hill, a large part of whom are members of the Young Archaeologists School project implemented by the museum reserve.

 

Continuation of the festivities in the Turaida Museum Reserve.

at 13.30 conference "Personality and cultural heritage" in the North Tower of Turaida Palace.

The conference is dedicated to Jānis Graudonis, the archeologist of Turaida Castle, architect Gunāras Jansons and Kaupo, the Libyan ruler of Turaida, whose trip to Rome is 820 years old. Reports will be read by history specialists: Anna Jurkāne, Guntis Zemītis, Ieva Ose, Eduards Plankājs, Alise Gunnarssone.

 

 

16.00 catalog "13.-18. found in Turaida Palace century clothing accessories" opening.

This is already the sixth art historian, dr.hist. The edition of the series of thematic catalogs of the Turaida Museum Reserve compiled by Ieva Ose, which introduces the archaeological finds stored in the museum collection.

 

16.30 exhibition "Album of the participants of the Turaida Castle archaeological expedition. 1976 - 2000" opening.

The exhibition will present the archaeological excavations, their progress, participants, work and life. It is designed as an album of memories, which you can go on a trip to the past by flipping through the pages to dwell on memories and look at what has been done and what has become as a result from the distance of time.

 

at 13.00 – 17.00 creative workshops "Exciting archeology" in the courtyard of Turaida Palace.

There will be exciting and educational games and demonstrations for both children and adults. In the workshops, you will be able to get to know and play medieval board games, the dice of which were found in the archaeological research of Turaida Castle. There will be a clay bird workshop, where everyone can learn the skills of making a bird. This will be the time when you will be able to discover how much money is in the Big Castle money chest and you will have the opportunity to build your own castle, as well as enjoy other exciting and interesting activities.
