In Valmiera and other parts of Latvia the biggest sports event of Latvia in 2016 – the Latvian IV Olympiad – will be held.

In the middle of summer when the Latvian meadows, forests, rivers and lakes are full of tasty and healthy things, Zaube Wild Food Fest takes place along the shores of two lakes.

Rich in traditions race „Around the Lake Vaidava” is held since 1982 and since then it has become a beloved annual event for running enthusiasts. Each year several hundred people participate in the 11,7 km long race around the Lake Vaidava.

In the Rubene parish, where the priest Indriķis (Henry of Latvia) in the 13th century wrote the Chronicle of Henry of Livonia, which is the oldest known written document about the history of territories corresponding to modern day Latvia and Estonia, for the second time the “Indriķis Day” event will be held, making it an annual event.

A rich program featuring a diverse range of art forms included classical music concerts, visual art exhibitions, opera and drama performances – that is Cesis art festival. Event plays significant role in Latvian culture, is known in Europe.

Cēsis celebrates its 810th anniversary with lively attractions, games, concerts, performances, ethno-festival, dances, market of traditional snacks and handicrafts and impressive fireworks. Part of the celebration is going to be Hanse market.It is colourful carousel of joy and happiness for everyone.

The XXVI International Sigulda Opera Music Festival will take place from 29th to 31st of July.

It is chance to discover celebrations and social life in Middle Ages with chivalry and field battles. During the event performs medieval music ensembles, visitors can observe and take part in craft demonstrations, buy medieval style production and enjoy other activities. The main topic of festival in 2016 is childhood in the medieval times.
